Jaguar Type 01 in Knightsbridge
A new home for Jaguar, an extraordinary electric grand tourer and a café worth slowing down for.
Knightsbridge is not easily impressed by a beautiful car. Jaguar has given it something to discuss over coffee.
Behind the windows of its new London flagship sits the Jaguar Type 01, a four-door electric grand tourer with a remarkably long silhouette, a pale, architectural cabin and the kind of presence that makes you look twice. Alongside it, Café Eighty-One offers somewhere to settle in, with a menu created by Michelin-starred chef Michael O’Hare. Jaguar’s new home makes an unusually persuasive case for taking your time. 1, 3, 7

Jaguar has a new London address
Jaguar at Knightsbridge is at 81–93 Knightsbridge, London SW1X 7RB. The flagship opened in October 2026, with Jaguar announcing the opening on 8 October. Its purpose extends from vehicle commissioning to exhibitions and hospitality, welcoming visitors as well as prospective clients. 1, 2
The setting matters. In our photographs, London carries on beyond the tall windows while the car sits against warm stone and a wash of coloured light. The contrast gives its unusual proportions a useful reference point: here is a future-facing Jaguar occupying a recognisably everyday London scene.
Jaguar describes a space built around travertine, terrazzo, metal and layered textiles, with comfortable places to pause. Jaguarscape hosts changing creative installations and cultural activity. The appointment-only Design Vault provides a more private setting for exploring colours, materials and commissioning choices. 2
For us, the appealing part is the invitation to linger. A car this unfamiliar deserves more than a hurried glance through a window. There is room to look, reconsider, have a coffee and look again.
Café Eighty-One and Michael O’Hare’s menu
Café Eighty-One is Jaguar’s café inside the Knightsbridge flagship, with a menu developed exclusively with Michael O’Hare. The chef is known for The Man Behind the Curtain and television appearances on Great British Menu. That is the culinary connection behind this opening. 3, 15
The published all-day menu gives familiar café food some intriguing twists. There is a bacon sandwich using cured Iberico pork secreto with dashi mayonnaise; a lobster roll with Amalfi lemon mayonnaise; and egg and soldiers with either truffle or Exmoor caviar. Soups are designed for sipping from cups, including a French onion version with Comté and Beaufort. A potato-based vada pav brings chilli and tamarind to the sandwich selection. 4
Even the scone has received a design brief. Its curved oloid form brings scone, jam and cream together, with flavours including Strawberry Vanilla, Fig Yogurt, Hazelnut Passionfruit and Peach Melba. The traditional cream-tea debate has acquired rather good-looking geometry. 3, 4
For a longer visit, The Chef’s Edit is listed at £75 per person, for a minimum of two guests. It includes an opening choice of Gusbourne English sparkling wine or non-alcoholic Saicho Jasmine Sparkling Tea, three sandwich selections per person, a soup, a scone and tea. Some sandwich choices carry supplements, and the menu lists a discretionary 15% service charge. Check the current menu when booking. 5
With coffee, tea and somewhere pleasant to sit, the café gives the flagship an appeal of its own. You can make it part of a Knightsbridge afternoon without arriving with a vehicle specification in mind. 1, 3
What is the Jaguar Type 01?
The Jaguar Type 01 is the announced production grand tourer at the centre of Jaguar’s new all-electric direction. It has four doors and four individual seats, with customer deliveries anticipated in 2027. The earlier Type 00, unveiled at Miami Art Week in December 2024, was the design-vision concept that previewed this change. 7, 13
Jaguar already entered the electric market with the I-PACE in 2018. What makes Type 01 significant is its role in a new generation of cars and its dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture, known as JEA. 12, 14
The car in our photographs matches the Design Vision presentation: Visionary Silver Satin paint, bold wheels and a light interior with warm metallic details. Jaguar’s Design Vision specification combines that exclusive satin finish with diamond-turned 23-inch wheels, brass-effect exterior finishers and a laser-etched Leaper. 9

The proportions are the point
The side view is where this Jaguar becomes particularly interesting. The bonnet stretches forward, the roof stays low, and the body looks substantial beneath the narrow glasshouse. Its broad rear shoulders give the tail real weight. This is a car whose character is carried by its overall shape.
Jaguar lists a length of 5,235mm and a height of 1,403mm. The long distance between the front axle and front door deliberately recalls an established Jaguar proportion. Producing the sharply defined aluminium rear quarter required a six-stage pressing process; Jaguar calls the component the “Impossible Panel”. 8
There is engineering beneath that visual confidence. Jaguar’s architecture places battery-cell connectors at the sides of the cells to help preserve the low roofline. Its rear spoiler deploys in stages, balancing the clean shape with aerodynamic function. 10
Look at the rear photograph and the absence of a conventional back window becomes obvious. Jaguar uses a ClearSight Rear View Display, fed by a camera, with the display integrated into the panoramic soundbar. 6 It is a detail worth trying for yourself when demonstrations become available: photographs can show the design, but familiarity with a new sightline comes from using it.

Power is only part of the grand touring brief
With this much performance on paper, the more revealing question is how naturally the car will handle ordinary journeys. A grand tourer needs to feel composed when the road is imperfect and effortless when there is distance to cover.
Jaguar’s answer combines air suspension, adaptive dampers, torque vectoring and all-wheel steering. The rear wheels can turn by up to six degrees at low speed, contributing to a claimed 11.5-metre wall-to-wall turning circle. The quoted 50:50 weight distribution is another part of the chassis brief. 8
Those details are relevant to a car more than five metres long. They suggest attention to manoeuvrability as well as acceleration, although only a proper drive will establish how convincingly the systems work together. Our photographs document a static viewing; they cannot settle ride quality, steering feel or motorway refinement.
The same distinction applies to electric range. Treat the 450-mile estimate as a comparison figure, then investigate the journeys you actually make. For a prospective owner, access to convenient home charging, dependable stops on longer routes and the effect of the chosen wheels will be more useful than a headline number alone.
Inside the pale cabin
The interior photographs reveal a different side of the Type 01. The seats have broad, uncluttered surfaces; textured fabric wraps their upper sections; and the light-coloured floor continues the soft visual effect. Warm metallic tones appear inside the open storage compartments. The contrast between the car’s assertive exterior and this gentle palette is one of its most appealing design choices.
Jaguar’s Design Vision interior pairs Orchid White Ultrafabrics NeoGrain with Dusk Grey Kvadrat DuoWeave. Brass-tone headrest embroidery and deep-pile mats complete the specification. 9 The broader material approach draws on furniture design, restrained stitching and the relationship between light, texture and shadow. 11

Technology includes a 24-inch OLED display, a separate seven-inch central touchscreen, Meridian-powered panoramic audio, active road-noise cancellation and front-seat hot-stone massage. Jaguar also lists a panoramic roof with virtual blinds and more than 450 litres of combined loadspace. 6
Our rear-cabin image makes the four-seat arrangement especially clear. The substantial central divider helps each passenger’s space feel deliberate. If you are considering the car for regular use, rear access, headroom and luggage fit deserve the same attention as the beautiful upholstery. The most successful specification will be the one you enjoy living with.
When will the Type 01 reach customers?
Jaguar expects orders to open in early 2027, with first customer deliveries in the second half of 2027. 7 Production is scheduled to begin at Solihull in 2027, with battery packs and electric drive units made in Wolverhampton and pressed body panels manufactured in Halewood. 12
The Type 01 is therefore a production programme with a published customer timetable. The presence of a display car in Knightsbridge does not establish that this particular example is road registered or available for a test drive. Ask the flagship about demonstrations and ordering arrangements as launch approaches.
Plan a visit to Jaguar at Knightsbridge
Address: Jaguar at Knightsbridge and Café Eighty-One, 81–93 Knightsbridge, London SW1X 7RB.
Published opening hours: Monday to Saturday, 10am–8pm; Sunday, 11am–6pm. Check the venue’s current information before travelling. Vehicle commissioning is by appointment. Café walk-ins are welcome subject to availability, and advance booking is recommended. 2, 3
Start with the car, then give yourself time for the café. The Type 01’s surfaces reward a second look from a different angle, particularly around the rear shoulders and inside the cabin. A leisurely visit makes more sense than trying to absorb the whole design in one photograph.

The Sparkly Zetta perspective
The most interesting luxury cars give you details to return to. Here, that might be the uninterrupted sweep of the rear bodywork, the textile on the seatbacks or the flash of colour when a compartment opens. The Type 01 has enough of those moments to sustain curiosity beyond its first impression.
Its eventual appeal will depend on how that design translates into everyday ownership. For now, Knightsbridge offers a chance to inspect the physical car and decide what you think, with a comfortable place to continue the conversation afterwards.
We would allow time for both. Jaguar has given the car plenty of presence. The scone may require a little attention too.
