Inside the Bentley Torcal electric SUV
A luminous grille, a cabin rich in British craft and an orchestral driving soundtrack. Bentley’s first electric SUV brings a distinctive personality to the luxury EV conversation.

Bentley has given its first electric car a grille that glows like jewellery and a soundtrack performed by musicians. Before the wheels turn, the Torcal makes its priorities clear: every part of the experience should feel carefully composed.
The Bentley Torcal, unveiled in London on 23 September 2026, is the marque’s first fully electric production car. A five-seat SUV, it introduces a fourth model line alongside the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga. The September event was its reveal; customer deliveries are expected in 2027. For anyone considering an electric Bentley, the interesting question is how that change fits the life around the car. There is plenty of performance to discuss. There is also wool, walnut, light, music and the very practical matter of where you will plug it in.

The standard Torcal already offers considerable performance. The S adds a more sporting presentation, with darker exterior detailing and a more assertive bodykit. Choosing between them is as much a question of taste and intended use as acceleration.
A new Bentley face with a familiar sense of occasion
The Torcal’s most conspicuous feature is its Floating Diamond Grille, composed of 76 hand-applied LED diamonds. It gives the front of the car a recognisable identity after dark, carrying Bentley’s fascination with intricate detail into its first electric model. Bentley Torcal range
The diamond motif has a longer story. Bentley traces it through patterned switchgear, upholstery and grille designs. For the Torcal’s digital graphics, the designers worked with Cumbria Crystal, filming light through specially made, hand-cut crystal objects. The resulting imagery brings the small irregularities of physical craftsmanship into the screens. The Bentley Diamond
That is a revealing detail. Even where the finished experience is digital, Bentley wants something tangible at its origin.
The name is similarly grounded in a place: El Torcal de Antequera, the extraordinary limestone landscape in Andalusia. It is an evocative name for a car whose broad surfaces and pronounced haunches give it a sculptural presence. The story of Torcal
Inside the Torcal with wool walnut and tactile controls

The cabin gives you reasons to look beyond the display. Bentley has worked with Somerset clothmaker Fox Brothers on an optional 100 per cent Merino wool fabric developed for automotive use. It broadens the interior palette alongside leather, offering the visual softness of fine tailoring.
The new Ombre walnut finish is equally interesting: Bentley describes pressing together selected layers of wood, then slicing them into thin veneers to create a gradual change in tone. Brushed aluminium provides another way to change the cabin’s character. Bentley materials and craftsmanship
For a buyer, those choices deserve time. View the materials in daylight, put the samples together and consider how the cabin will feel after the novelty of a new car has settled. A lighter interior, a richer veneer or a particular textile can make a familiar journey feel more personal.
Technology has a clear place within that setting. Curved OLED displays sit alongside physical controls on the centre console and steering wheel. Available seating features include systems that vary pressure distribution and manage seat heating and ventilation during a journey. Bentley launch details
Four ways to change the atmosphere
Bentley’s Curation Engine coordinates several parts of the cabin, including lighting, sound, climate and the information on its displays. The four modes offer different starting points: Bentley balances the experience; Comfort softens the ambience; Sport makes it more purposeful; Refresh increases fresh-air circulation and brightens the setting.
Comfort also offers a digital detox setting that reduces the information being shown. Bentley cabin modes
For passengers who spend long stretches in a car, this could be one of the Torcal’s most appealing ideas. The useful test will be whether the settings become features you choose naturally, without needing to think about the technology behind them.
An electric car with a musical voice
Bentley approached the Torcal’s propulsion sound by studying the rhythm of its V8 engines, then working with musicians using instruments including drums, viola and bass guitar. The resulting Bentley Dynamic Symphony responds to the driver’s inputs. The Sound of Bentley
There is something wonderfully characteristic about commissioning musicians for an electric SUV. It treats sound as another material to shape, alongside wood or leather. Whether that appeals is a matter for your own ears: Bentley also allows the propulsion soundtrack to be switched off. Bentley launch details
A demonstration should include both settings. Silence may be exactly what you want on the way home.
Range and charging for the journeys you actually make
Bentley’s current standard Torcal page quotes up to 373 miles (600 km), with EU type approval pending. Its published 10–80 per cent charging time is 16 minutes using 400 kW DC infrastructure. Current Torcal figures
Bentley’s launch material quoted 375 miles. Both figures are manufacturer claims; actual range will vary.
The 16-minute figure applies to a compatible rapid DC charger. For prospective owners, the useful exercise is to map charging onto a normal week: where the car stays overnight, how often it travels beyond the local area and which charging stops would suit a longer trip. Actual charging performance depends on the vehicle, battery and charger conditions.
A convenient charging arrangement will matter repeatedly. The fastest acceleration time may matter far less often.
Touring comfort and the realities of a large SUV

Bentley combines all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering with its active suspension technology. The intention is to give the car a broad range of behaviour, from settled cruising to more controlled responses in corners. Those are promising ingredients; a proper test drive should establish how they feel on the roads you use. Bentley Torcal S chassis technology
The Torcal remains a substantial car. Bentley lists a length of 5,008 mm and a width of 2,198 mm across the mirrors. Measure the garage entrance and parking space, particularly if the car will spend much of its time in London. Torcal dimensions
For buyers taking a car overseas, the specification discussion should also cover steering side, destination-market charging compatibility, local warranty support and connected services. Bentley notes that some digital and assistance features depend on the market. Ownership and connected features
Choosing an electric Bentley
The Torcal’s appeal is easy to understand on paper: Bentley’s attention to materials and atmosphere, expressed through an electric SUV that still has a strong visual identity.
The next step is more personal. Try the seats for long enough to form an opinion. Explore the controls without a guided demonstration. Listen to the soundtrack, then switch it off. Check how easily the car fits into the places where it will actually live.
For Sparkly Zetta, the most compelling specification will be the one that brings those everyday details together. The colour, cabin, equipment and charging arrangements should suit the owner as carefully as a good piece of tailoring.
